Located on top of a rise in the rolling hills and bushland of Pullenvale in Brisbane’s west, this new home design was conceived as a series of pavilions stepping up the hill.
The client brief was to create a contemporary translation of the ranch house, generous in proportions, but restrained in presentation. While embracing environmentally sustainable design principles, the house was proposed as having “grown out the ground”—celebrating the clients’ love of natural materials and the landscape.
The prominent upper level features a cantilevered timber podium, which extends over the main entry to the house. A brick wall runs the full length of the house, adding a rich textural element to the material palette. The main roof floats above the living spaces to create a sense of lightness, assisted by full height glazing opening to the picturesque hills of Pullenvale.
