Howard Smith Wharves
Brisbane City Council sought a proposal to revitalise this spectacular and historic—yet challenging and long-neglected—riverfront CBD site under the Story Bridge. Where many schemes have fallen short in the past, Arkhefield has redefined the project, presenting an exciting and viable proposal that balances public space and commercial development.
Key to bringing the site and proposal to life is reinstating the original wharf line—which had been overlooked in previous proposals. This enables the development of a proposed waterfront hotel facility alongside expansive public parklands.
As an urban renewal project, the reimagined Howard Smith Wharves will provide Brisbane’s city centre with new public space, combined with valuable hospitality and event facilities—optimising the civic and commercial potential, while preserving the site’s unique heritage.
Arkhefield’s vision for the Howard Smith Wharves was developed as part of the City Centre Master Plan Ideas Fiesta.
