Kobe – Jupiters Townsville
For Kobe, Arkhefield endeavored to create a memorable space through a process that we refer to as “room making”. This process assists us in thinking about the experience of the spaces within, and to interpret how our clients and their patrons will experience the restaurant.
As such, various devices – primarily the use of timber cladding within the restaurant – creates links between the distinct spaces and across the levels within the restaurant. Folded sculptural timber elements flow through the restaurant, connecting the upper and lower floors together, whilst red elements in the fitout reveal the ‘flavour’ inside, like cutting though steak to reveal the redness.
On entry to Kobe, patrons are immediately engaged by the bespoke wine storage wall in the silhouette of a bull’s head – an indication of the culinary experience that awaits them. A long banquette seat acts as a low screen between the casual and formal dining areas, with the timber strip flooring continuing up and over the seat to form a sculpted element within the restaurant space and connecting the area.
