Libertine occupies prime frontage in the Arkhefield-designed Barracks redevelopment.
The brief presented several challenges: interpreting an established Sydney restaurant and brand for Brisbane; making a vast, single-room space feel intimate and multi-layered; creating a rich French-Vietnamese atmosphere in a former police barracks; all the while working within the strict guidelines that come with a heritage building.
Libertine delicately embraces the past and future, exotic and local—respecting the history of the site, of alcoholism, celebrating the culture and cuisine, and creating a vibrant extension of the original Libertine in Sydney. In addition to the rich and varied interior within the heritage building, a contemporary external structure expands the Libertine experience and capacity.
