Master Planning – Cultural
Post Office Square
The proposed Post Office Square redevelopment reimagines a revitalised public space and retail environment in the heart of Brisbane CBD. Our vision is to create a landmark experience that is unique to Brisbane whilst incorporating a contemporary interpretation of a sub-tropical urban landscape. We envisage a shaded and verdant urban green space that is folded over and sits between stunning sub-tropical architecture. A place where some of the city’s most important views are enhanced and where new life is breathed into the city through fresh new retail concepts and plenty of space for people to sit and enjoy our great climate.
Post Office Square will act as a hub, connecting Central Station to the business district and leveraging the recent investment in Queen Street to expand what the CBD has to offer. The space will be transformed from open grass into lush and leafy layers of landscape where intimate activated laneways, green roofs, landscaped terraces, trellis’s, promenades and arbours offer a quintessentially ‘Brisbane’ public space experience. Post Office Square is poised to become Brisbane’s green verandah.
Powerhouse MASTER PLAN
Brisbane City Council engaged Arkhefield to establish a framework for the further development of the Powerhouse Precinct. The study identified major public areas for retention and possible re-uses of ancillary site areas. The brief required a revitalisation of the links between buildings; retail and commercial facilities; a residential component; retention and re-valuing the storehouse and Birrel buildings; car parking facilities; optimisation of existing level changes on site; and the optimisation of Devine Plaza.
