Global
Arts Link

In a major cultural initiative, the Ipswich City Council sought to transform the Ipswich Town Hall, Queensland’s oldest, built in 1861, into a high-tech visual arts museum, gallery and cultural centre that expresses both the history and the aspirations of the Ipswich community.

The internationally rated gallery is the State’s first since the Queensland Art Gallery. The museum oriented spaces meander through the existing building to new gallery spaces in the rear.

All of the interest groups of Ipswich are represented in the digital productions of the museum area. Peoples’ stories are told, collected and stored for public access by all. The program interweaves with the building’s use in an ever-changing format.
