The challenge in designing Stokehouse Brisbane was to create a new space befitting one of Australia’s most highly acclaimed restaurants—and one of Brisbane’s most spectacular locations, right on the river’s edge at South Bank.
The River Quay Master Plan opens an underutilised area of the South Bank Parklands to provide a first class dining precinct and public realm that embraces the sub-tropical lifestyle. Arkhefield's vision was to create a place that relates strongly to the river, exploring unique models for subtropical retail dining experiences anchored by the revitalised publicly accessible river edge.
What began as a much-needed refurbishment of the highly acclaimed Urbane Restaurant grew to become a full revitalisation of a heritage building, and the creation of four distinct yet interconnected venues and brands.
The clients’ vision was for a restaurant with the shared qualities of a resort beach setting, and of their existing relaxed Jetty brand at Bulimba – comparing the resulting experience to a picnic at the river.
Gordia was born from the desire to create a restaurant design with an emphasis on the bar atmosphere, the Arkhefield design was influenced by Southern Spanish food and aligned with the sensual and intimate offer at Peasant, a sister restaurant in Brisbane’s Barracks precinct.
Designed by Arkhefield in conjunction with the broader refurbishment of Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, Aquitaine is the sister restaurant to its namesake in South Bank, Brisbane. Providing variety of areas suited to both formal and informal dining options, the space has a visual relationship between the restaurant, bar and garden, embedding the building within it's setting.
